Charles River Apparel, based in Medford, Mass., an activewear apparel manufacturer, recently launched a social networking campaign to increase online discussion about the company and its active wear products. Twitter and LinkedIn are the first two social networking sites where the company is actively represented, in addition to their own corporate blog at charlesriverapparel.typepad.com and a second blog for distributors-only in the password-protected area of their Web site at www.charlesriverapparel.com.
“The rules of sales and marketing are very different these days. Blogs and other social networking sites are where you need to be to get the latest feedback on your company and products,” said Vanessa Keefe, director of marketing for Charles River Apparel.
With their new corporate and distributor-only blogs, Charles River Apparel believes it will be able to actively hear from both consumers and distributors about their activewear styles. “While email is great for getting comments, a blog lets everyone see the responses and helps foster a discussion within an online community. With our president, [vice president] of production and fashion designer all posting to our blogs, we will have a lot of timely fashion and industry information for discussion,” said Keefe.
“With so many distributors across the country, our blog will now give a voice to each of them no matter where they are located. Our sales representatives do an excellent job of seeing their customers regularly, but our blog will enable distributors to quickly and easily give observations and reactions,” added Keefe. “A perfect example is a recent blog posting from our [vice president] of production regarding the new consumer safety rulings on lead in children’s apparel. This is exactly the type of pressing issue that we want feedback on from our distributors.”
