Newton, Iowa-based The Vernon Company announced employees raised $3,345 for the annual Jasper County Relay for Life, in support of the American Cancer Society. This donation amount surpasses the company’s 2008 Relay for Life fundraising campaign by 20 percent.
A team of corporate office employees participated in the Relay for Life event, held June 5, 2009 in Newton, Iowa. The team also facilitated a number of fundraising efforts prior to the relay to raise money to help fight cancer. Fundraising activities included a silent auction, homemade cookie raffle, jeans day donations, May Day basket bidding, a handmade quilt raffle and a bowling/pizza party lunch.
“We were hoping to top last year’s Relay For Life campaign donation, but knew it would be a challenge,” said Judy Lukenbill, The Vernon Company's campaign co-organizer. “But like they always do, our employees stepped up to the challenge, beating last year by 20 percent. Employee support of this cause is fantastic,” Lukenbill concluded.
