Newton, Iowa-based Newton Manufacturing employees again showed their generosity by meeting the United Way of Jasper County’s Dare to Care challenge to increase its giving by 10 percent from the previous year. The challenge was given to employees at the beginning of the company’s annual United Way fund-raising event.
This year’s event covered two weeks and gave employees opportunities to give by participating in events like a potluck lunch, silent auction, casual days and 50/50 drawing. The money collected from these events along with employees' personal pledges resulted in more than $10,000 in donations, up 10 percent from the $9,200 that employees donated last year.
“We were excited by the response we got throughout the event, so the fact that we met the Dare to Care challenge wasn’t surprising,” said Angie Mowbray, who helped coordinate the events as part of Newton’s United Way committee. “We have many generous, community-minded people working here.”
The company rewarded employees with a casual dress week.
