The introduction of a bill that would help U.S. authorities crack down on rogue websites selling fake and counterfeit goods has been welcomed by apparel and footwear firms.
The Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011 "sets us in the right direction to providing us with a full arsenal of tools that will be helpful in fighting these rogue websites," noted Kevin Burke, president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association.
American Apparel said it received a subpoena from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California for documents relating to a complaint filed by a former employee with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration in November 2010. The information was disclosed in a regulatory filing.
The complaint contains allegations regarding American Apparel's policies regarding foreign currency transactions and transfer pricing, according to the filing.
"The company intends to fully cooperate with this subpoena," American Apparel said in the filing.
American Apparel said it's involved in other employment-related claims and management "believes that all such claims against the company are without merit."

American Apparel Inc. reported a smaller loss in the first quarter and the company says a key revenue figure has improved in the current quarter and is expected to rise for the full year.
