Two Children's Hoodies Recalled Due to Strangulation Hazards
Two different companies recalled children's hoodies with drawstrings this week.
Los Angeles-based Chantique's Corp., recalled its Pure Baby Organics Boy's Hoodie while Active Apparel did the same with it's Boy's Fission Zipper Hooded Sweatshirt.
Drawstrings in children's clothing poses as a strangulation hazard as they can get caught in playground slides, hand rails or school bus doors. The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued guidelines regarding drawstrings in children's clothing in 1996. A year later those guidelines became a voluntary standard, which, in turn, became a federal regulation in 2011.
The Chantique's recall involves about 60 units of style number PB1613.B12 sold between January and August. The 100 percent cotton gray hoodie has a red hood drawstring and zipper front closure. The China-made hoodie was sold nationwide in children's boutiques and online at www.nordstromrack.com in toddler boy's size 2t to boy's size 3 for $62.
Available in black, green, royal blue, true red and turquoise, the cotton/polyester hoodie from Active Apparel, Mira Lorna, Calif., features a white drawstring attached on each side of the neck area, two pockets and a white, front zipper. Its batch number is 61271,159. About 7,800 units were sold at Fred Myer and Kroger stores nationwide from June through August for $18. The Pakistan-made garment was sold in boy's sizes small (8-10) and medium (12-14).
No injuries associated with either hoodie were reported.
Consumers are advised to remove the drawstrings or return the product for a full refund.
