R.S. Owens in Contract Dispute with Teamsters During Oscar Statuette Production
The Huffington Post is reporting that awards supplier R.S. Owens & Company, Chicago, is in the midst of contract negotiations with the Chicago Teamsters, who represent the company's workers.
The Teamsters Union issued a press release Tuesday alleging that R.S. Owens & Co. "denied wage increases to its workers from 2007-2011, and is proposing wage freezes for the next three years. ... Owens also wants to cut vacation and bereavement benefits prior to the Oscars on Feb. 26, 2012."
R.S. Owens & Co. manufacturers the awards for the Oscars and Emmys. According to the article, production on awards for the Oscars extends through January, meaning a strike by workers could potentially affect the award show if a deal is not reached.
Scott Siegel, president of R.S. Owens & Co., told The Huffington Post that he wishes to come to an agreement with the union and has two meetings with them this week. The company did not respond to Promo Marketing's request for comment at the time of print.
