“Bay State Specialty Company, with great sadness, announces the passing of its owner and chairman, James G. Moore, at the age of 75.
On January 23rd, James Moore of Plymouth died at home surrounded by the love of his family. Jim was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University College of Engineering. Jim began his career in the promotional products industry at Souvenir Inc. as vice president of production under his trusted friend and mentor Bob Yaw. In 1976, Souvenir purchased a small unknown company in Middleboro, Mass., called Bay State Specialty Company. Jim was appointed president and he and his wife Beverly moved their family from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Duxbury, Mass.
Jim served as president of Bay State until 1989 when he, Beverly and current executive vice president Dick Keyo purchased Bay State outright from the Bemrose Corporation. Jim continued as president and through his stewardship, grew Bay State ten fold, winning many industry awards along the way. Jim believed in a few simple concepts: Quality imprints and products...innovation...and exceptional customer service.
Jim served as President of the Specialty Advertising Association of New England (now NEPPA) in 1981 and also served as a board member for PPAI from 1990 through 1994. Jim had served on numerous committees and was a strong supporter of continuing education within the industry.
Left behind are his wife of 53 years, Beverly Moore; his daughter Julie and her partner Patti Mullee of Duxbury, Mass.; three sons, Dan Moore of Carver, Mass.; Michael and Joanne Moore of Plymouth, Mass.; Joel and Laurie Moore of Plymouth, Mass.; eight wonderful grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Moore Alsager of Washington state, and Martha Moore Mau of Minnesota; many nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
