THE POWER OF PRACTICALITY
While an engaging appearance is certainly important, it will only get you so far. A well-designed award will not only be ?aesthetically pleasing, but also have several practical design elements that ground it and make it accessible.
For example, the Opera's metal base isn't only included because it looks nice and provides contrast with the acrylic. Maloney explained that the metal also adds weight to the award, which is a traditional and definitive way to add to perceived value. Beyond that, the acrylic is more affordable than glass, keeping prices lower. The Opera also doesn't break a golden rule of advertising: Know your audience. While its design is a little unconventional, it undeniably maintains an aesthetic that would fit right in at the office.
