Eunice Seligson, Widow of Selco Founder, Passes Away
Eunice Seligson, widow of the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based The Selco Companies founder, Jack Seligson, passed away Feb. 24 at the age of 95 in Oklahoma City. Eunice moved to Oklahoma City in 1934 and opened Weber’s Jewelers, which later became Selco, a chain of 47 stores including Peacocks, Kays and Cardan & Co. In 1961, Larry Abels, Eunice’s son-in-law saw the opportunity to sell custom watches and in 1965 industry supplier Selco became the “Original Logo Watch Company,” the first watch company to enter the promotional products industry. In 1980, the jewelry stores were sold and today, the family’s fourth generation continues to focus on its commitment to promotional products.
Eunice Seligson was an honorary board member of Temple B’nai Israel. In honor of Eunice’s 75th birthday, her children set up the Eunice Seligson Flower Fund through Temple B’nai Israel Sisterhood. Donations can be made to the Seligson Flower Fund at Temple B’nai Sisterhood or Mercy Hospice in Oklahoma City. She is survived by grandson Mark (Tami) Abels, president of Selco; daughter Fay (Larry) Abels of Tulsa,, her daughter, Janice (Lee) Segell; grandchildren, Jeff (Keli) Segell, Scott (Denise) Segell of Atlanta, Todd Abels of Dallas, Lisa Abels of Houston; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Feldstein and Betty Michaelson.
