CPSC Recalls Children's Sweaters with Drawstrings
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Kyber Outerwear, Ogdensburg, N.Y., have announced the recall of Children's Animal-themed Sweaters due to a strangulation hazard.
The sweaters have neck drawstrings, which pose a risk of becoming entangled on playground slides, hand rails, school bus doors and other moving objects. Having drawstrings on children's apparel also is in violation of federal law.
Kyber Outerwear sold about 3,100 sweaters at independent children's stores nationwide and online between January 2010 and December 2013 for $10 to $50. Those produced in Nepal are 100 percent wool while those produced in Bangladesh are 50/50 wool/acrylic. No injuries were reported, but consumers should either remove the drawstrings or return the sweaters to Kyber Outerwear for full credit.
