Charles River Partners with The Mountain Fund’s Gear4Good Charitable Program
Medford, Massachusetts-based Charles River Apparel, a supplier of activewear to the promotional products industry, announced its partnership with the charity Gear4Good, a program that reuses donated outdoor gear and apparel. Gear4Good is part of the Albuquerque, New Mexico-based non profit organization The Mountain Fund. The Mountain Fund assists impoverished mountain communities with health care, education and human rights issues around the world.
The Mountain Fund’s program Gear4Good collects donated used items such as packs, sleeping bags, boots and outerwear to be reused by trekking porters, search-and-rescue teams and at-risk youth. Charles River Apparel recently donated hundreds of jackets which will be put to good use by the people of indigent villages in Nepal.
“In Nepal, poorly paid porters lack clothing to keep them warm and dry while carrying loads for tourists up the steep slopes of Mt. Everest,” said Scott MacLennan, founder and executive director of The Mountain Fund. “Many times over the years they suffered frostbite or even died for lack of a good, warm jacket. Charles River Apparel’s donation will help ensure that hundreds of working porters do not suffer,” concluded MacLennan.
The large donation to The Mountain Fund’s Gear4Good charity is one of many Charles River Apparel makes on an annual basis. “We support a wide variety of charities in the United States and we are proud to be broadening our giving with the support of an international charity such as The Mountain Fund” said Vanessa Keefe, director of marketing for Charles River Apparel.
