Small businesses swept the 2011 Sandy Springs/Perimeter Chamber of Commerce awards program.
Neil Wiesenfeld, president of Atlanta-based AdMan Promotions, a member of the AIA Corporation network, fulfilled the customer service requirement for the Small Business of the Year Award, according to presenter Ron Comacho, chamber vice-chair of strategic planning and principal of marketing firm Communications Focus.
"When this business received a phone call at 2 p.m., January 18 from a prospect ... for T-shirts they needed in 48 hours for a fundraising event related to the Haiti earthquake ... Neil put the silk screening shop on alert," Comacho said. The customer, downtown Atlanta-based CARE U.S.A., got its shirts three hours ahead of schedule, Comacho said.
"At the core of who this winner is and what they do is customer service, that critical aspect that so often separates the good from the exceptional," he said.
Wiesenfeld said after the ceremony at the Westin Atlanta North hotel that he was following the example of his father, Jack Wiesenfeld, who was also in the specialty advertising industry. "I didn't join the chamber to solicit business. My dad taught me, don't put yourself in a position where people run away from you," the younger Wiesenfeld said. "I've offered my services when requested."
However, the chamber did assist Wiesenfeld to fulfill another criterion of the award—community support. "Ever since I joined the chamber in January 2009, I've gotten very involved," he said. "I got on the [Business] Expo committee. That's what I do for a living—help people at trade shows attract people to their booths."
