According to CNN, the rug, originally purchased for $500, received 83 bids and fetched $9,650 at auction. The best part? The department's official auction listing:
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will not sweep anything under the rug. Due to extensive interest regarding our plans for the doggone rug, you can bid on it here, and we will donate 100 percent of your bid to Canine Estates Inc., a local animal rescue.
The sheriff's office told Tampa's WFLA-TV the listing got 30,980 hits before the sale was finalized. The rug sold to an anonymous bidder.
