“Simplification makes sense to me, finding really pure ways to relate fabrics to the body,” says New York designer Matthew Ames. For resort, he draped single swatches of silk chiffon or georgette into seamlessly fluid silhouettes that recall Madame Grés’ 1940s gowns for Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo.
