San Francisco Plastic Bag Ban Expands to All Retailers, Creates Opportunities for Distributors
Multiple districts in California have enacted similar legislation in the last 12 months. The cities of Los Angeles and Calabasas enacted disposable bans on July 1, 2011, followed by Long Beach on August 1 and Santa Monica on September 1. San Jose had a bag ban go into effect on January 1, 2012. Cities outside of California, including Seattle, New York and Austin, Texas, are either considering or have already passed similar legislation. The trend is spreading, and distributors should start planning tote bag promotions now in order to have a head-start.
