The company partnered with Parley for the Oceans to create merchandise made from discarded ocean plastic. Together the two companies will release 7,000 pairs of the UltraBoost Uncaged Parley sneakers, which are comprised of 95 percent recycled ocean plastic.
"This represents another step on the journey of Adidas and Parley for the Oceans," said Eric Liedtke, an executive board member for Adidas, according to the Portland Business Journal. "We have not only managed to make footwear from recycled ocean plastic, but have also created the first jersey coming 100 percent out of the ocean. But we won’t stop there. We will make 1 million pairs of shoes using Parley Ocean Plastic in 2017—and our ultimate ambition is to eliminate virgin plastic from our supply chain."
