In a previous Promo Marketing Rant, I reflected on the concept of Life is Good. What makes a good life? Is it lots of money to buy "stuff" you want? Does having well trained dogs make a good life? (I wouldn't know much about that. We love our dogs, but it's for their wacky personalities, not their manners.) Or, is a good life made up of faith, family and friends?
Having returned from the Sail to Success Cruise to the Bahamas I've had a chance to reflect on the good life a bit. We had a GREAT time and based on the response from those on the cruise, the trip was a hit.
Ron Baron, who presented education, was outstanding as usual. He reflected on the question, What Do I Want My Life to Look Like? Ron shared personal stories on how growing his business negatively affected his family. During the critical years of his kids growing up, Ron had to tell his kids things like, "Sorry, I couldn't make your 10 year old birthday party. I've got to work, but I'm doing it for you. In this video, he shares that To Be More Successful...You Must Work Less!
At one time, Ron was estranged from his daughter Robyn, but now they were together on this cruise. Robyn handled much of the logistics and administrative processes for the trip. It was nice to get to know her and spend some quality time with Ron as well. Ron is a popular educator and we have worked together for years. This time on the ship away from a business setting strengthened our friendship.
In talking with my wife on this topic, I confessed that I'm not doing a great job at working less. Part of that is I love what I do. But I've got to get a handle how much time I work. To my credit (pat on the back), I do some awesome things with my son and we have a great relationship, but as a family we can do better. Perhaps some of you can relate?
