Charles River Apparel Gives New Purpose to Ordering Samples with Reciprocity Road

At the Reciprocity Road Rally in Nashville, Charles River Apparel partnered with Reciprocity Road and its partners to donate over $7,500 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

Reciprocity Road is a brand merchandising group serving more than 150 Fortune 500 companies. It is comprised of 11 distributors, with Charles River Apparel as one of its preferred suppliers. Reciprocity Road hosts a Road Rally event each year to gather its distributors and suppliers to share products and insights. However, this year, Charles River wanted to do more.

"[Charles River CEO] Barry Lipsett and I wanted to do something a little different for the Reciprocity Road Rally in Nashville," said Sharon Steed, director of sales for Charles River Apparel. "Their mission of 'BrandGood' aligns so much with our values and Charles River Cares. Since the show consisted of 28 meetings, we decided not only to engage each meeting with product and company knowledge, but also add meaning through a give-back. We wanted the charity to be something local to Nashville, and Second Harvest seemed to fit well with our Meals on Wheels campaign."

Charles River Apparel has given back to the local community through its charitable program, Charles River Cares, for more than a decade through give-back programs, volunteerism, and donations. This year, it turned its focus to helping the hungry, and became a proud sponsor of Meals on Wheels America. Charles River Apparel saw an opportunity to continue making a positive difference at the rally and pledged to donate $500 plus $20 for each $10 sample sold at the show to Second Harvest Food Bank. When other distributors heard about the promotion, they followed suit.

“When I let Perry Wehrle, executive director of Reciprocity Road, know that we would be doing a give-back program around our samples, Reciprocity Road immediately matched the $500,” said Steed. “Then, during one of the meetings early on, Cory Benton, president of Robyn Promotions, challenged other owners to match as well.”

In addition to Reciprocity Road and Robyn Promotions, Flywheel, C&S Sales, Quality Resource Group, Grapevine Designs, and MadeToOrder also matched donations. With their support and more than 200 samples sold, Charles River Apparel raised over $7,500 to help those experiencing hunger in Middle Tennessee.

“We’re incredibly grateful to those who helped us accomplish this goal, and we’re very proud to be part of Reciprocity Road, which is also committed to giving back in meaningful ways,” said Steed.
